Dr. Avinash Mishra

Dr. Avinash Mishra, the Joint Secretary of AYTA is a long-time advocate of yoga and its traditional philosophy. Dr. Mishra has a strong foundation in ancient yoga practices laid in his early years under the guidance and mentorship of his grandparents, renowned devotees and his elder brother Mr. Sanjay Mishra, a yoga master himself. During these formative years Dr. Mishra has not only explored spirituality through yoga but also understood the science behind its various methods. This true and in-depth knowledge based on heritage and gained by dedicated practice shaped his career towards using yoga as a holistic approach to achieve mind-body harmony. In his career spanning more than 14 years in the field of yoga, Dr. Mishra has laid emphasis on combining tradition with modern scientific methods in treating different ailments.

Dr. Mishra took a formal yoga instructor course in 2002 from Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA) Yoga University, Bangalore. He subsequently completed higher studies (Master's in Yoga Sciences) from the same University.

Amongst his many specializations, two most pronounced are his in-depth understanding of mechanism of yoga for children and yoga for stress management. He specializes in yoga therapy and research aspects of yoga. He acquired specialized skills; including basic neuropsychological tests for assessing children to evaluate the usefulness of yoga, and research methodology including data organization & analysis using the statistical package SPSS (Version 10.0). Dr. Mishra’s therapeutic skills and experience of treating various psychosomatic, autoimmune and immune-deficiency disorders like IHD, hypertension, diabetes mellitus (type II), bronchial asthma, allergies, skin aliments, cancer, arthritis, non-healing ulcers and wounds, gastro intestinal disorders, renal & menstrual diseases etc. is noteworthy in his evolution as a researcher in yoga and related sciences.

After exploring yoga in India for many years, he moved to China to share the knowledge of yoga and spent more than five years in different cities of Yangtze-delta area. Having the interest in cross cultural study and passion for tradition he has started his research as a part of doctoral study on the inter-operability and complementariness of traditional Chinese health-care systems, like Tai Chi and Qigong with Yoga, from Shanghai Sport University under the guidance of Professor Yu Ding Hai. He has wide research experience and has participated in many yoga related workshops.

  • Dr. Mishra was the main instructor in 1st and 2nd International Day of Yoga celebrations organized by Consulate General of India, Shanghai. As a part of the celebrations, he travelled to nine cities in nine days across Eastern China Region, and imparted training as per the yoga protocol prepared by the Ayush ministry, Government of India.
  • He also played a great part in translation of the protocol booklet into Chinese, which enabled Consulate as well as the local administration to make the booklet widely available to yoga enthusiasts in most parts of China. His knowledge of Chinese language was also significant contributor as a medium of instruction.
  • Dr. Mishra has mastery in preparing different individual and group courses to fulfil individual and group needs like yoga corporate, yoga for medical professionals, and yoga for students, etc.
  • He has been a regular participant in many international conferences on yoga, including as a volunteer of the organizing committee in the conference on Golden jubilee conference of the Association of Physiologists and Pharmacologists of India, organized by National Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience, Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
  • He has participated in project entitled; “Efficacy of Yoga on Mirror Star tracing in School Children” at the department of Clinical Neuro-psychology, in April 2005, Swami Vivekananda Yoga Research Foundation, Bangalore, India.
  • He has presented a paper entitled; "Yoga and Diet" in First National convention Science and tradition of food - India’s heritage of 5000 years (2004), organized by Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore and Academy of Sanskrit Research, Melkote, India.
  • Participated in the project entitled "Efficacy of three different Integrated Yoga Modules for School Children on Manual Dexterity" in April 2004 towards the partial fulfilment of M.Sc (Yogic Sciences), at Swami Vivekananda Yoga Research Foundation, Bangalore, India.
  • Presented paper entitled; “Efficacy of Three different Integrated Approach of Yoga Modules on School Children in Manual Dexterity” in Fourteenth International Conference on Frontiers of Yoga Research and Applications (2003) organized by Swami Vivekananda Yoga Research Foundation, Bangalore, India.
  • Participated in different seminars held by Shanghai University of Sport, during 2011 to 2016.
  • He was a key person of management team and experts holding 1st Asian Yoga Therapy Conference, in Shanghai in 2016.
  • He has done presentations on applications of yoga in conferences held in different parts of China like Beijing, Dalian and Shenyang.
  • He has participated in several international conferences on yoga and has presented many research papers on divergent topics, including on 'Yoga for Children'.

Dr. Mishra has been teaching yoga for more than 14 years and has taught more than 50,000 students from different parts of the globe, in countries including, India, China, Australia, The US, Germany, Singapore, France, Japan, South Korea, and Russia. He has been teaching yoga since 10 years in different parts of China including Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Liaoning, Shandong, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu.

He is a member of several organizing committees for Yoga for School Children and Stress Management programs in corporate sectors.
