Dr. Avinash Mishra, the Joint Secretary of AYTA is a long-time advocate of yoga and its traditional philosophy. Dr. Mishra has a strong foundation in ancient yoga practices laid in his early years under the guidance and mentorship of his grandparents, renowned devotees and his elder brother Mr. Sanjay Mishra, a yoga master himself. During these formative years Dr. Mishra has not only explored spirituality through yoga but also understood the science behind its various methods. This true and in-depth knowledge based on heritage and gained by dedicated practice shaped his career towards using yoga as a holistic approach to achieve mind-body harmony. In his career spanning more than 14 years in the field of yoga, Dr. Mishra has laid emphasis on combining tradition with modern scientific methods in treating different ailments.
Dr. Mishra took a formal yoga instructor course in 2002 from Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA) Yoga University, Bangalore. He subsequently completed higher studies (Master's in Yoga Sciences) from the same University.
Amongst his many specializations, two most pronounced are his in-depth understanding of mechanism of yoga for children and yoga for stress management. He specializes in yoga therapy and research aspects of yoga. He acquired specialized skills; including basic neuropsychological tests for assessing children to evaluate the usefulness of yoga, and research methodology including data organization & analysis using the statistical package SPSS (Version 10.0). Dr. Mishra’s therapeutic skills and experience of treating various psychosomatic, autoimmune and immune-deficiency disorders like IHD, hypertension, diabetes mellitus (type II), bronchial asthma, allergies, skin aliments, cancer, arthritis, non-healing ulcers and wounds, gastro intestinal disorders, renal & menstrual diseases etc. is noteworthy in his evolution as a researcher in yoga and related sciences.
After exploring yoga in India for many years, he moved to China to share the knowledge of yoga and spent more than five years in different cities of Yangtze-delta area. Having the interest in cross cultural study and passion for tradition he has started his research as a part of doctoral study on the inter-operability and complementariness of traditional Chinese health-care systems, like Tai Chi and Qigong with Yoga, from Shanghai Sport University under the guidance of Professor Yu Ding Hai. He has wide research experience and has participated in many yoga related workshops.
Dr. Mishra has been teaching yoga for more than 14 years and has taught more than 50,000 students from different parts of the globe, in countries including, India, China, Australia, The US, Germany, Singapore, France, Japan, South Korea, and Russia. He has been teaching yoga since 10 years in different parts of China including Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Liaoning, Shandong, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu.
He is a member of several organizing committees for Yoga for School Children and Stress Management programs in corporate sectors.
